Marlow has a Citizen Corps but is short of volunteers to take on a leadership or coordination role. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact Jacqui Fay at the Town Office at 603-446-2245.

The Citizen Corps role is focused on promoting emergency preparedness. CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is a branch of the Citizen Corps. Anyone eighteen or older can become a member of the Citizen Corps. If they want to then become a member of CERT they are required to attend special training which usually becomes available a couple of times a year. CERT may be activated by the Emergency Operations Center to assist in an emergency with traffic control, running the shelter, providing food to emergency workers, etc.

The Marlow Citizen Corps was formed in October 2006 as an offshoot of the New Hampshire Citizen Corps. The NHCC will assist our local council by helping to create opportunities for local community members to engage in volunteer services that support emergency preparedness and responses for Marlow and its citizens. A Council was formed made up of representatives from the police and fire departments, town government and various organizations. This group met monthly during the start up phase and it is actively seeking interested citizens who would be willing to assist the emergency personnel in the event of a community disaster. Through the hard work of the early council members a $5000 grant was acquired for technical equipment and the information from the survey sent out in January is now readily available to assist the Citizen corps if needed.

A number of local citizens have taken part in a twenty hour CERT training. Citizen Emergency Response members have been known to be trusted resources to emergency responders and their communities. It is comfortable to know that we have members of our own community to provide immediate assistance until other trained personnel can arrive at the scene of a disaster.

Ongoing training will be offered to citizens to further advance skills that we hope will not be needed in Marlow, but for which we must be prepared. You can stop at the town offices to get further information about the Marlow Citizen Corps.

Citizen Corps - The mission of Citizen Corps is to harness the power of every individual through education, training, and volunteer service to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds. Guide to Disaster Preparedness - When a disaster is imminent or arrives on little to notice, there’s no excuse for not being prepared. No matter where you live, it’s important you know which types of disasters can hit your area and how you should prepare for them.

How to Properly Pack a Car Emergency Kit - It’s not possible to foresee or prevent every eventuality when it comes to driving. However, you can be prepared for the majority of outcomes with a little advance work. By prepping a car emergency kit for you and your family, you’ll make sure that when an accident happens, or you break down, that you are safe, comfortable, and able to proceed on your way without too much undue hassle.

What we can do and what you can do in an emergency...

A helpful way to start is to print out and complete this Marlow Citizen Corps questionnaire. This will help you and the Citizen Corps help each other in case of an emergency. After filling it out, just drop it off at the Marlow Town Library or the Town Offices.
