AN INVITATION FOR WATER WITCHES 2022
The MARLOW WITCHES’ KAYAK REGATTA will take place this year on October 8, 2022 (rain date: October 9th) from 11am till NOON. As far as we know, this is the only Witches’ Regatta on the East Coast; they are typically for charity. This years’ fundraiser will be shared between 2 local causes, The Frances Strickland Scholarship Fund and Friends of Perkins Academy (FOPA).
This is a VERY VISUAL event, guaranteed to put a spell on everyone watching as the witches first drift into sight, so please wear witch’s attire and witch hat. Remember to secure your hat so you don’t lose it on the water. Also, you can decorate your kayak any way you want or not at all.
After the Regatta there will be a pie sale, amazing raffles, games and fun for the children, and a broom ball tournament. Food will be available at Aaron’s Ice Cream Shop, 4/10 of a mile south on Route 10.
The launch site might be a little more challenging this year due to lower water but if we use our magic we can do it!
We will try to stagger the timing between kayaks more this year - some spectators missed it thinking we’d be on the water until 3pm. So if you wear a watch and can stay on the water the full hour it would be very much appreciated.
At 11:30 on the water we are gathering around the orange canoe (which will have a cauldron with smoke bombs!) and recite “DOUBLE DOUBLE, TOIL + TROUBLE, FIRE BURN AND CAULDRON BUBBLE”, three times. Again, a watch is helpful so we can pull this off.
Contact Jeannie Merwin at 603-446-7751 for more information, or if you would like to be in the Regatta, you can pick up a registration form at Marlow Town Office, see it displayed at the Marlow Post Office, or download the form below.
We hope you can join us! OK, LET’S HAVE SOME FUN!!!! Jeannie Merwin and Pat Hersom
