As 2016 comes to an end, the Marlow Children's Enrichment Trust (MCET) would like to extend our THANKS and GRATITUDE for the support shown toward the Trust and the children of Marlow. Thank you, also, to our volunteers - especially our amazing husbands - for stepping up to the plate and giving a helping hand! The first Saturday of every month we host the Gathering Place - and it is wonderful to see the people stopping by to say 'hi'. We held three fundraisers in the past 13 months - Applebee's night in Nov of 2015, D'Angelos in June, and Orchard Hill Pizza Night also in June. All were so heartwarming to us (and fruitful for our coffers) as we saw (or heard of) so many Marlow folks in attendance. Noah E noted after pizza night that he was pleased to see so many youth volunteers and so many new faces at pizza night - thank you! It has also been a pleasure to participate in the Welcome Marlow Baby program. We also enjoyed helping out FOPA with donations for their silent auction - such a fun day! Please remember us should you have an idea for programs/activities, etc for our youth but may need some financial help in making it a reality. We work with Perkins Academy, but also with individuals. We hope to continue to financially help in bringing programs, activities, and other enrichment to Marlow youth. (And I hope we have enriched your lives this year as well). All the best to all of you in 2017 and on. Here are a few pics from this year's MCET archive. Fondly - Donna Wright Chase, Barbara White, Sandy Salo and Mary Andreasen.
The trustees of the Marlow Children’s Enrichment Trust are able to offer funds to help bring an activity or a program to Marlow children this year. Who can apply for funds? Teachers of the Marlow School District, and individuals and groups associated with Marlow whose purpose for these funds is for enriching Marlow children. The Gathering Place
The trustees host the Gathering Place on the 1st Saturday of each month from 9:00 - 11:30. Everyone is welcome to stop in for coffee, refreshments and catching up on news with your neighbors. The Gathering Place is hosted by different town organizations and donations support their projects.
History / Purpose
In 2011 a group of concerned Marlow residents and staff at the J. D. Perkins School banded together to discuss and plan and work to find ways to enrich the lives of our children. This group was formed when the NH legislature opted to change the formula for school funding, which would leave many rural towns with far less funding than wealthier towns and cities.
As a result of our brain storming the Marlow Children’s Enrichment Trust was formed.
The purpose of this Trust is to “…assist education and developmental opportunities of children in the community of Marlow, New Hampshire.” This trust is not connected to the Marlow School District or the Town of Marlow, although the intent, in part, is to work with the Marlow School Board and the staff at J.D. Perkins Academy to enhance learning opportunities for our students.
Through fund raising activities and generous donations we will continue our mission to enrich the educational experiences of Marlow youth.
In June of 2015 we applied for, and received, 501(c)3 status. This makes all donations to the MCET tax deductible for the donor.
The Marlow Children’s Enrichment Trust has been able to help with the following:
- Grades K-3 attended a live performance at Colonial Theatre
- Grades 4-6 attended a live performance at Colonial Theatre. The 4th-6th graders read the book before attending the play and wrote about their impressions. See some of the thank you notes in our photo gallery
- The Marlow Library was able to afford supplies for the “1000 Books to Kindergarten” program.
- Two separate NH Historical Society programs were presented to the students of the JD Perkins Academy.
- Costs were defrayed for the 3rd/4th grade class in publishing their book on the 1941 Marlow fire.
The Marlow Children’s Enrichment Trust hosts the Gathering Place on the 1st Saturday of each month at the Chapel.
Other ways we continue to reach out to the community: contributing to the Welcome Marlow Babies Program and participating in the Odd Fellow’s business card placemats.
In August we announced the amount of money available from the Trust. For 2015 we are able to offer $333 to help bring programs to Marlow children - or to bring Marlow children to programs. Letters are sent to Marlow organizations and the letter is posted around town. Applications are available by contacting a trustee, or by downloading and printing the application below.
