Announcements

August 2018

Greetings,

August is the month the trustees of the Marlow Children’s Enrichment Trust review our books to determine what funds we can offer to groups or individuals hoping to bring activities or programs to papplications.

Last year the Friends of Perkins Academy, Marlow Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, STEM Club and a person on behalf of a Marlow student applied for, and received, funds from the Trust.

Who can apply for funds? Teachers of the Marlow School District, and individuals and groups associated with Marlow whose purpose for the funds is the enrichment of Marlow youth.

Please note the MCET is hoping to reach as many children as possible with the funds available. Therefore, preference will be given to applications that have the broadest reach in our community.

Deadline to apply for funds: Although there are no set deadlines, there is a limited amount of funds available. Therefore, please consider completing and returning applications as soon as possible. The trustees will review all applications and notify applicants within 4 weeks of receipt of application. It is our hope to offer funds to all who qualify, however, funds are limited.

Applications are available by contacting a trustee listed below or by downloading the pdf of the form on the right side of this page.

This trust is not connected to the Marlow School District or the Town of Marlow.

We look forward to working with the community to enhance learning opportunities for the children of Marlow. Again, anyone with an activity or program plan is welcome to apply for funds.

Sincerely,

The Trustees of the Marlow Children’s Enrichment Trust:

Donna Chase 446-7733, Sandy Salo 446-3366

Barbara White 446-2281, Mary Andreasen 446-2276

The Gathering Place

The trustees host the Gathering Place on the 1st Saturday of each month from 9:00 - 11:30. Everyone is welcome to stop in for coffee, refreshments and catching up on news with your neighbors. The Gathering Place is hosted by different town organizations and donations support their projects.

Trustee Needed

We are looking for another trustee. If you are interested, please contact us at chase1@myfairpoint.net.

History / Purpose

In 2011 a group of concerned Marlow residents and staff at the J. D. Perkins School banded together to discuss and plan and work to find ways to enrich the lives of our children. This group was formed when the NH legislature opted to change the formula for school funding, which would leave many rural towns with far less funding than wealthier towns and cities.

As a result of our brain storming the Marlow Children’s Enrichment Trust was formed.

The  purpose of this Trust is to “…assist education and developmental opportunities of children in the community of Marlow, New Hampshire.” This trust is not connected to the Marlow School District or the Town of Marlow, although the intent, in part, is to work with the Marlow School Board and the staff at J.D. Perkins Academy to enhance learning opportunities for our students.

Through fund raising activities and generous donations we will continue our mission to enrich the educational experiences of Marlow youth.

In June of 2015 we applied for, and received, 501(c)3 status. This makes all donations to the MCET tax deductible for the donor.

Outreach

The Marlow Children’s Enrichment Trust has been able to help with the following:

  • Grades K-3 attended a live performance at Colonial Theatre
  • Grades 4-6 attended a live performance at Colonial Theatre. The 4th-6th graders read the book before attending the play and wrote about their impressions. See some of the thank you notes in our photo gallery
  • The Marlow Library was able to afford supplies for the “1000 Books to Kindergarten” program.
  • Two separate NH Historical Society programs were presented to the students of the JD Perkins Academy.
  • Costs were defrayed for the 3rd/4th grade class in publishing their book on the 1941 Marlow fire.

The Marlow Children’s Enrichment Trust hosts the Gathering Place on the 1st Saturday of each month at the Chapel.

Other ways we continue to reach out to the community: contributing to the Welcome Marlow Babies Program and participating in the Odd Fellow’s business card placemats.
